Do I need to know the formal algebraic proof of CRDT convergence?
No. Notion’s loop rejects candidates who recite proofs but cannot map CRDTs to a 100 ms latency budget. The hiring manager in Q2 2024 asked for latency numbers, not a theorem.

Will a strong coding interview compensate for a weak system design answer?
No. The debrief in the Sept 2023 loop showed a candidate who aced the coding round but failed the sync design and received a 1‑2 No Hire vote. Design performance is a hard filter.

Is it acceptable to mention eventual consistency as a fallback?
No. Notion repeatedly penalizes “eventual consistency” answers. The follow‑up on network partition in the Oct 2023 interview required a deterministic merge rule; the candidate’s “we’ll merge later” reply earned a No Hire.
